The Tomb of Jesus Christ?

I read with great interest the post yesterday from MSNBC in regard to the supposed find that producer James Cameron is propogating. In particular, I was intrigued by the article caption ... "A book and movie allege the final resting place of Mary, Joseph and the King of Kings has been found. Controversy to follow." You think!? "Controversy to follow" is one of those phrases that just have to make you chortle - or at least smirk!

As followers of Christ, however, things like this should not surprise us. Consider these words from the Apostle Paul as he wrote words of encouragement to his protoge Timothy ... from THE MESSAGE translation ... "You’re going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food—catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They’ll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages. But you—keep your eye on what you’re doing; accept the hard times along with the good; keep the Message alive; do a thorough job as God’s servant."

Our job - is not necessarily to feed the "Controversy to follow" routine ... but instead to remain firm and faithful to the SOLID TRUTH of the Word of God.

I saw this story yesterday. Several archiologists & scholars have already started poking holes into this story including possible incorrect translation of names, possible antiquities fraud and several other things. But you know what they say, "controversy sells".

Update on this documentary. Another scholar has examined the inscription that said "Mariamene", which was the key support of the documentary. It means Mary Magdalene. It now appears that "Mariamene" was incorrectly translated. It was actually "Mariame" and a second inscripton was added next to it in greek script that said "Kai Mara" which means and Mara. It appears that the Ossuary that the documentary claims contains Mary Magdalene actually contains the bones of someone named Mary and a Second Person added at a later time.
